FilmQuest 2024 Wrap-Up

For my first time sicne before 2020’s shut down, I returned to the FilmQuest Film Festival in Provo, Utah, a fest that screened my music videos three years in a row back before I started this podcast… But this time, I was there to cover some films with Piecing It Together.

I had a great time meeting lots of filmmakers and creatives and in total recorded 7 episodes, which have come out throughout this week (for a podcast that’s usually one or two episodes a week… 7 in one week was a lot of work but it was a fun challenge and I’m sure I’ll do it at festivals again in the future).

Along with these 4 films that I covered I saw all the guest’s short films, as well as some other fun ones. Some stand-outs that I didn’t cover included the absurdist Bird House (Directed by Jerry Pyle), the stop-motion VHS tape comedy-horror VHX (Directed by Alisa Stern) and the hilarious Two Women Make A Lunch Plan (Directed by Elizabeth Archer). I also watched a couple of other features including the “Duel in the snow” comedy/thriller Delivery Run (Directed by Joey Palmroos) and the one man anime The World’s Divide (Directed by Denver Jackson).

I’m hoping to get a bunch more filmmakers that I met at the festival on some upcoming episodes of the podcast and like I said… Maybe I’ll do all this again sometime… But for now I need a nap (and to catch up on all the end of the year movies that I missed this week… end of the year screening season is rough).

I’ll leave you now with this cool 35mm film portrait that was taken of me at the festival by photographer Johnny Call who was taking portraits of everyone involved with the festival.
