Gunpowder Milkshake (Featuring Ryan Luis Rodriguez)

On the 193rd episode of Piecing It Together, Ryan Luis Rodriguez from The Coolness Chronicles joins me to talk about the Netflix action flick Gunpowder Milkshake. With a name like Gunpowder Milkshake, it’s gotta at least be a little bit fun, right? Puzzle pieces include Kill Bill, The Kingsman, Batman and Drive.

Project Power (Featuring Kristen Maldonado)

On the 140th episode of Piecing It Together, Kristen Maldonado joins me to talk about Netflix’s Project Power, a high energy, over-the-top superhero movie. We don’t see a lot of original superhero movies nowadays, so despite a somewhat ridiculous attitude, it’s still refreshing to see. Puzzle pieces include Limitless, The Professional, Requiem For A Dream and the Transformers Series.

Alpha (Featuring Chad Clinton Freeman)

On the 24th episode of Piecing It Together, returning co-host Chad Clinton Freeman discuss Alpha, the survival epic about the first ever “boy and his dog” from writer/director Albert Hughes. It’s a gorgeous looking movie set in 20,000BC with long, beautiful shots of the uncompromising wilderness, acted in an ancient language (with subtitles) and tells the story of the first man who ever bonded with a dog. It might not REALLY be the story of the first man and dog to bond, but it’s a great one. Puzzle pieces include Apocalypto, 300, 10,000 B.C., and Annie.

First Reformed / You Were Never Really Here (Featuring Kris Krainock)

On the 14th episode of Piecing It Together, returning co-host Kris Krainock and discuss two movies (a first for this show) that not only happen to be two of the best movies of the year so far, but they both share a very important puzzle piece in the classic film Taxi Driver. First Reformed was written & directed by Paul Schrader (who of course also wrote Taxi Driver) and deals with a pastor played by Ethan Hawke who begins to spiral out of control from the pressure of trying to balance the political desires of the church and what he knows in his heart God would think is the right way to live in this world. You Were Never Really Here was written & directed by Lynne Ramsay and follows a man played by Joaquin Phoenix whose life has been defined by violence as he attempts to rescue a young girl from a life of sex trafficking while the effects of all that violence begin to take a toll on him. Aside from Taxi Driver, other puzzle pieces include Diary of a Country Priest, mother!, A History of Violence and Order.
