On the 4th episode of Missing Pieces, The Lady-Wan from the Screen Fix Podcast joins me to talk about 2004’s Garden State. Zach Braff swings for the fences with a story he wrote, directed, produced and starred in (not to mention putting together an all-timer soundtrack), and it definitely paid off at the time… But the film and star’s reputation has taken a hit in recent years. We discuss whether it still works. Puzzle pieces include The Graduate, American Beauty, Dazed & Confused and Annie Hall.
The Royal Tenenbaums
On the 106th episode of Piecing It Together, Chad Clinton Freeman joins me to talk about one of his favorite subjects… Shia LaBeouf and his new film Honey Boy. Directed by Alma Har’el from a story written by LaBeouf about his own life, and starring him as his own father… It’s a weird one. And a great one. Puzzle pieces include Private Parts, Adaptation, American Honey and Birdman.
On the 83rd episode of Piecing It Together, Kris Krainock returns to the show to talk about one of his favorite movies of the year, the debut from writer/director Joe Talbot, The Last Black Man In San Francisco. This beautiful, surreal look at the effects of gentrification from A24 is one of the year’s best, most unique films. Puzzle pieces include The Royal Tenembaums, Do The Right Thing, The Florida Project and Atlanta.
On the 2nd episode of Piecing It Together, co-host Josh Bell and I discuss the new dark comedy Thoroughbreds. This Sundance 2017 hit finally got its theatrical release and is personally my favorite movie so far this year. Aside from American Psycho and Heathers (which are right on the pull-quote on the movie poster), other Puzzle Pieces mentioned include Strangers On A Train, The Witch, and Heavenly Creatures.
