On the 101st episode of Piecing It Together, Joe Black joins me to discuss Edward Norton’s passion project, Motherless Brooklyn. A throwback film noir starring Norton as a tourette’s syndrome afflicted private detective, it’s a bit of a mixed bag… But a bag that’s more good than it’s bad. Mostly. Puzzle pieces include The Untouchables, Road To Perdition, Sin City and Live By Night.
On the 33rd episode of Piecing It Together, returning co-host Ryan Daugherty and I discuss Drew Goddard’s Bad Times at the El Royale. Ryan and I are obsessed with Goddard’s Cloverfield series so we jumped at the chance to cover this mystery about a group of strangers who converge on an old motel located on the California-Nevada border… And while we weren’t The Cloverfield Paradox level disappointed, we didn’t exactly love our stay at the El Royale. Puzzle pieces include every Quentin Tarantino movie, Lost, Smokin’ Aces, and No Country for Old Men.
On the 29th episode of Piecing It Together, returning co-host David Quinones and I discuss Mandy… A movie that promises the craziest Nicolas Cage performance you’ve ever seen, and actually pretty much delivers (well to be fair he’s got a TON of crazy performances to choose from so lets just say it lives up to his legacy). At its core it’s a revenge film about a man who goes after a religious cult after they murder his wife, but it’s much more than that and one of the most unique films to come along in a while. Puzzle pieces include Army of Darkness, The Wall, Tommy and Heavy Metal album covers.
