On the 119th episode of Piecing It Together, Robert Yaniz Jr. from the Crooked Table Podcast helps me kick off year 3 of our podcast by looking at The Invisible Man. This modernized take on the classic Universal Monster movie from Blumhouse and director Leigh Whannel is totally surprising and does the long tradition of monsters proud. Puzzle pieces include Terminator 2, Ex Machina, Sleeping With The Enemy and Gone Girl.
On this Special Episode, we follow up our 46th episode on Serenity with another hour long conversation about what is sure to be the craziest movie of 2019. My conversation with Kristen Lopez was a perfect regular episode, but when friend of the show Joe Black said that he non-ironically loved this crazy movie, I had to do another episode.
On the 38th episode of Piecing It Together, returning co-host Kris Krainock and I get into what was apparently Steve McQueen’s life-long passion project, the female heist thriller Widows. Written by Gillian Flynn and featuring buzz-worthy performances from Viola Davis and Daniel Kaaluya, Widows has not disappointed many in the film community. But it disappointed us. Puzzle pieces include the Ben Affleck trio of Gone Girl, The Town and Live By Night, as well as Set It Off.
On the 31st episode of Piecing It Together, we are joined for a second time in a row by co-host Jacob Tiranno to talk about A Simple Favor, a mystery that comes to us from “the darker side of Paul Feig,” the comedy director best known for Bridesmaids and the Ghostbusters reboot. It’s a solid mystery that still manages to squeeze in plenty of Feig’s style of comedy and some great performances from Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. Puzzle pieces include Gone Girl, Big Little Lies, Lifetime movies and The Talented Mr. Ripley.
