Annette (Featuring Kris Krainock)

On the 202nd episode of Piecing It Together, Kris Krainock joins me to talk about Leos Carax and Sparks’ bizarre new musical Annette starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard. Love it or hate it… You’re not gonna find a weirder movie this year. Puzzle pieces include Tommy, Eraserhead, The Saddest Music In The World and a bunch of Charlie Kaufman films.

Mank (Featuring M.N. Miller)

On the 156th episode of Piecing It Together, M.N. Miller from Ready Steady Cut joins me to talk about David Fincher’s Mank, out now on Netflix. The story of Herman J. Mankiewicz, writer of the classic 1941 Orson Welles film Citizen Kane and his struggle for credit in Hollywood. Puzzle pieces include Hail Caeser!, Can You Ever Forgive Me, Trumbo and of course, Citizen Kane.

An American Pickle (Featuring Jason Harris)

On the 139th episode of Piecing It Together, Jason Harris from Awesome Movie Year returns to the podcast to cover a movie we mentioned in our August 2020 Trailers Special Episode, the Seth Rogen star vehicle An American Pickle. It’s very jewy, but unfortunately not very good. But we had a great time talking about it. Puzzle pieces include Adaptation, To Dust, Borat and Being There.

Antkind: A Novel (Featuring Kris Krainock)

On the 137th episode of Piecing It Together, we do something that we’ve never done before… Cover a book! But it’s not that surprising that I’d want to talk about Charlie Kaufman’s first novel on the show, considering he’s the writer of my favorite movie Adaptation and a number of other films I love. Joining me is returning co-host Kris Krainock who did a great job of filling in the literary gaps with some puzzle pieces I’d have never been able to come up with unless I had another decade or two to read some more books… Did I mention I’m a slow reader?

Honey Boy (Featuring Chad Clinton Freeman)

On the 106th episode of Piecing It Together, Chad Clinton Freeman joins me to talk about one of his favorite subjects… Shia LaBeouf and his new film Honey Boy. Directed by Alma Har’el from a story written by LaBeouf about his own life, and starring him as his own father… It’s a weird one. And a great one. Puzzle pieces include Private Parts, Adaptation, American Honey and Birdman.

Under The Silver Lake (Featuring Bee Garner)

On the 61st episode of Piecing It Together, Bee Garner from Filmotomy and JumpCut Online joins me to talk about the polarizing Under The Silver Lake. After an iffy premiere at Cannes, distributor A24 got cold feet, allowing it to leak online, then delaying it over and over until David Robert Mitchell’s follow-up to It Follows was dumped to VOD. Which sucks. Because it’s a cult classic in the making. Puzzle pieces include The Big Lebowski, They Live, Burn After Reading and Rear Window.

Sorry To Bother You (Featuring David Quinones)

On the 23rd episode of Piecing It Together, returning co-host David Quinones and I actually do our first ever cross-over episode with our other show Bird Road Podcast by covering the politically charged Sorry To Bother You. The story centers on a man in an alternate near future (played by Atlanta’s Lakeith Stanfield) who discovers he has a special gift that will lead to a fast rise up the corporate ladder at his telemarketing job. As his career begins to take off, his friends begin to organize a protest against the corporation, and the anti-capitalism messages mix with plenty of weird dystopian imagery in this wild movie from first time writer/director Boots Riley. Puzzle pieces include the work of Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry, Office Space, They Live and Dope.
